Chodząc ulicami, aż do promenady słyszę te same głosy, wrzawę i ludzką energię, które fascynowały przybyszów sto, dwieście lat temu. Słucham, jak miasto rezonuje i nasyca się ludzkimi głosami. To nie jest ersatz miasta, to sedno miejskości. Ludzie stanowią o dynamice i kierunku rozwoju. Każda uliczka, dom przechowują głosy setek lat. Jednocześnie to żywe nowoczesne miasto, które mimo przewrotów, wojen, polityki, kataklizmów trwa od VIII wieku p.n.e. Ma swoją ukrytą historię pod ziemią, pod tynkami, w obskurnych i pięknych miejscach. Współistnieją tu chaos i ład, wrzawa i cisza, spokój i wybuchowość, podobnie jak obok majestatycznych budynków stoją ruiny. Neapol z pewnością nie jest linearną historią, którą łatwo się opowiada i której lekko się słucha. Myślę o tym wszystkim, widząc polskie osiedla, bloki, kamienice dotknięte chorobą termomodernizacji. Będzie ciepło, ale bez historii. Chyba że pojawią się głosy, które wypełnią przestrzenie placów.

Walking the streets, up to the promenade, I hear the same voice, bustle and human energy that had fascinated visitors one, two hundred years ago. I listen how the city resonates and saturates with human voices. This isn’t an ersatz of the city, it’s the heart of urbanity. People define the dynamics and direction of development. Every lane and every house preserve voices of several hundreds of years. At the same time, it is a vibrant, modern city which, in spite of upheavals, wars, politics, cataclysms, has lasted since the 8th century BCE. It has its hidden history under the ground, under the roughcasts, in squalid and beautiful places. Here, chaos and order co-exist, bustle and silence, calm and explosiveness, just as majestic buildings neighbour the ruins. I think of all those things, seeing Polish housing estates, blocks, tenements afflicted with the disease of thermo-modernisation. Things will be warm, but history-less. Unless voices will emerge to fill the spaces of our squares.
